THE BASKETBALL BALL CONSTRUCTION
THE STRUCTURE OF ELITE BASKETBALLS
There are several types of basketballs.
How to tell them apart?
-
1. By their materials
-
2. By the number of layers used. From 2 to 4

2
Obviously Hooper's best quality basketballs have 4 layers of different materials.
In order to allow (as with TechBall with all our balls) an excellent touch, a natural bounce and perfectly in line with the needs of the game, a prolonged resistance, as well as air permeability with our Infinite Bounce technology so as not to have to reinflate it for each use.
The 4 layers that shaped the basketball
The Bladder
It corresponds to the place where the air is put in.
It can be:
made of synthetic rubber, natural rubber, or an mix of several types of rubber.
Winding Layer
It is a layer of thousands of filaments of synthetic material that surrounds the bladder, to protect it (avoid destructuring), and give it a rounder, more resistant structure, and highly contribute to the bounce quality.
The Carcass
It is over the two previous layers to play a role of protection, bounce quality, as well as providing a skeleton for the spherical shape of the basketball.
The Carcass for Elite basketballs like those from TechBall is made of foam, to better shock absorption, to avoid deformations, and to allow the ball to have a better, much more natural bounce.
The Cover or External Layer
This layer provides the feel, the grip, and the final element that improves the bounce and overall performance of the ball. On high-end and premium basketballs , this layer is generally made of microfiber or leather, as with our balls and their Ultimate Microfiber and Ultra Microfiber technologies.
However, for outdoor games, more abrasion-resistant materials such as Superior PU and Composite Leather will be used to increase durability.
- Example with the TB-MVP and its Hybrid Composite Leather Cover.
