A Soccer Ball ?!

Let's go back to the beginning: Dr. James Naismith created basketball to provide exercise for students during the winter. So, indoors. But logically, there was no basketball.

So the first basketball…was a soccer ball

Not ideal, and besides... we all know that guy who plays basketball with a soccer ball and shouts: goal!! instead of Bucket!!

1894

The First Basketball

It wasn't TechBall … . Indeed, each of us can thank Spalding Sports Goods and J.Naismith for working together to give birth to the very first Spalding basketball, made from cowhide leather sourced in Chicago.

(perhaps an explanation for the Chicago Bulls...).

1937

A Seamless Ball

Until now, so for more than 40 years, one problem for any fan of dribbling and crossing was THE lace, on the Basketball.

A HUGE central seam to join the two hemispheres of the ball.

The result: a ball that is not round and difficult to handle

We would never have known our artists: Kyrie Irving, Jlew, Jamal Crawford, White Chocolat

1950

The Birth of Rules and Standards

Originally, basketballs had no standards or rules.

You could play on Monday with a 30-inch ball and the next day with a 35-inch basketball, brown or white... CHAOS.

But the 1950s revolutionized basketball, how?!

Finally, we got official sizes, colors, and dimensions, matching the expansion of basketball around the world.

The Synthetic Materials Revolution: Composite Basketballs

- Microfiber Ball: Ultimate Microfiber / Ultra Microfiber
- Composite Leather: Hybrid Composite Leather

Leather balls are iconic, certainly.

But performance and durability are evolving.

Welcome to the Composite Basketball: microfiber, composite leather, and Superior PU. These are materials that have literally changed the game.

That is why today the NCAA, the EuroLeague, and FIBA use synthetic basketballs.
